RESEARCH FINDINGS

As a group, we each set out to interview one person who had experience being a mentor. We wanted to start as broad as possible, so we did not limit what type of mentor we chose. We interviewed the following people:

  1. A 54 year old woman who is a Chief Technology Officer at a 10,000 employee company.

  2. A 50-year-old female completion coach.

  3. A 23-year-old female University of Washington student organisation president.

  4. A 35 year old digital marketing manager.

Each interview was approximately 30 minutes long, and we sourced by reaching out to people we knew. Once we went through the interviews, a lot of themes emerged, and a few statements came out that was important to keep in mind throughout our design process. For example, it came out that the relationship between mentors and mentees was the most vague between times they meet. It was hard for the mentors to keep track of mentee progress and their difficulties between meetups. This can become important because, in some cases, mentors and mentees only met up once a month. Other key factors were that younger mentors did not really know how to help their mentees due to inexperience. Other personality traits were recorded and observed as well that will appear in the following two personas.
